The Pandemic Influences a Festival Season.

A month ago festivals throughout the world confessed they could not proceed working due to the spread of the coronavirus. First, these were festivals planned for March and April and now all mass events are prohibited for the next several months. In France for example, restrictions will have a force until the middle of July. We decided to gather information about festivals and have already disclosed a list on FB, which is going to be updated.

Some festivals have already announced new precise dates. The Moscow International Film festival, in particular, is to take place on 1-8th of October. There are also those who are trying to work in the digital mode. Thus, one of the first to do that was the Dutch CPH-DOX. On 17th of April one of the most important European documentary festivals Visions du Réel began, where «The Golden buttons» the documentary of Alex Evstigneev took part as a debut and student work. All movies are available after you sign in. However, the majority of the festivals are still about to put off their dates for an indefinite period, providing access to their multimedia libraries, mostly with free public viewing.

So, we can see that the festival cycle doesn’t stop and it changes. We are constantly monitoring the situation and answering different questions from members of the film community. On 15 April we participated in the first online conference for film festivals and agents, organised by Short Film Conference. At this conference partners from various countries shared their ideas and opinions on what should be done to maintain the festival cycle in 2020. Not all of the festivals announced new dates but summer and autumn promise to be hot.
